It was a day of celebration and catch-ups, genuine laughter and heartfelt moments which created a beautifully relaxed atmosphere. Styling was simple yet elegant, showing that the building and grounds itself was enough. I was fortunate to photograph their gorgeous celebration, capturing many of the natural moments and joyful memories that unfolded throughout the day.

A Relaxed Wedding at Holkham Hall, Norfolk
Rosie and Laurie's Holkham Hall wedding brought together family and friends from across the world, with many making the journey all the way from the US to celebrate with them in the Norfolk countryside. There was such an easy-going atmosphere to the day; elegant and beautiful, but ultimately centred around having everyone they love together in one place.
Holkham Hall provided the most incredible backdrop for it all. The scale and architecture of the estate brought that sense of occasion, while the celebrations remained wonderfully relaxed and full of personality. From the quieter interactions to the laughter and conversations happening around Rosie and Laurie, there were so many moments that naturally lent themselves to the documentary approach I love.
Rather than every photograph needing to be perfectly arranged, I'm always looking for the moments happening in between 〜 the expressions, interactions and little pieces of the day that might otherwise go unnoticed. Alongside those, we made time for beautiful portraits that embraced the surroundings and grandeur of Holkham Hall without taking Rosie and Laurie away from their celebrations for too long.
Why Holkham Hall Is One of Norfolk's Most Beautiful Wedding Venues
There is something pretty special about photographing a wedding at Holkham Hall. Set within its vast estate on the North Norfolk coast, the 18th-century Palladian Hall has all the grandeur you'd expect from one of Norfolk's most iconic country houses, but with so much variety in the spaces and landscapes surrounding it. From the architecture of the Hall itself to the parkland, lake and gardens, there are endless beautiful backdrops without needing to venture far from the celebrations.
One of its most impressive spaces is the Marble Hall, with its sweeping staircase and incredible 50ft domed ceiling. For couples wanting something different, Holkham also offers ceremonies at The Temple within the parkland, intimate celebrations within the State Rooms and the light-filled Courtyard Room. Receptions can continue in the Lady Elizabeth Wing, beside the lake or within the Walled Garden, or even a marquee in front of the lake, giving couples plenty of freedom to create a day that feels completely their own.
From a photography perspective, it's that variety that I love. The architecture is perfect for those more editorial portraits, while the grounds give us space for something softer and more relaxed. And alongside all of that, there's still plenty of opportunity for the natural, documentary photographs that tell the real story of the day 〜 guests catching up over drinks, hugs between family members, laughter during speeches and all those little interactions happening in between.
It's a venue that works beautifully for couples who want their wedding to feel elegant and special without their photographs needing to feel overly formal. We can make the most of everything Holkham Hall has to offer for portraits, while still leaving plenty of space for you to actually enjoy your wedding day.
Favourite Moments From the Day
The day started for me just outside the Holkham estate, meeting Laurie and the boys at the pub near the entrance for a drink before they made their way towards the Hall. The long walk down the drive gave us such a fun start to the photographs 〜 loads of energy, plenty of laughs and a chance to capture the group together before taking a few groomsmen portraits in front of Holkham Hall.
From there, it was into the Marble Hall for Rosie and Laurie’s ceremony, which was every bit as impressive as the surroundings but still felt wonderfully relaxed. There was so much laughter throughout, before everyone headed upstairs for drinks and the newlyweds made their way back down Holkham’s grand staircase into their beautiful confetti moment.
The celebrations then spilled out into the courtyard for drinks and canapés, giving everyone time to catch up and enjoy being together before heading into the Courtyard Room for speeches and dinner. And, of course, once the formalities were finished, it was time for the dancing.
It was one of those weddings where the grandeur of the setting sat so beautifully alongside the relaxed energy of the people in it 〜 exactly the kind of combination I love to photograph.
